Looks like they are getting ready to lay!

Mr. Sassafras found this tiny egg in the middle of the coop yesterday...!   It seems that our spring chickens are finally ready!  ...funny story:  when we first got our baby chicks, mr. sassafras told the kids they would be ready to lay "in a few weeks"     Ha....! the kids and I kept waiting...and waiting...and waiting....until I decided to do some research on my own, turns out spring chickens lay eggs in the fall....!    - having 'grown up' in a farm, papa thinks he knows everything there is to know about animals and such....well, papa was a little boy then - children's concept of time greatly differs from reality        ...a few weeks, a few months....whatever...!

Chinese Harvest Festival

Last weekend, we went to the Chinese Moon Festival - we ate piggie shaped moon cakes....We learned how to make Chinese Lanterns out of red money envelopes......

....and we each made an origami paper crane for peace.....
...when we got home we did some research....The Moon Festival celebrates the annual harvest, we are going to make our own Chinese moon cakes tomorrow night...!!!!
